You Are Your Own Boss When You Work At Home!

You Are Your Own Boss

You Are Your Own Boss

When you join a network marketing company, you are your own boss! One of the lures of being an entrepreneur is to be able to “fire your boss” and become your own.

We’ve all had one, two or more in our time.  We know that bosses are doing the work for a higher up who are doing the work for another higher up and so on. In all cases, the employees at the bottom are the ones who are pressured, sometimes bullied and made to feel, at times, worthless and unappreciated.

The boss is under pressure and uses that pressure to make his subordinates feel pressure as well.

The 9-5 Scenario

being the bossThe scenario is the same – report to the job on time, do the boring, uninteresting work.

The worker is asked to do the impossible, criticized for what is done with very little praise or recognition. Often times, demeaned and belittled.  And guess what? They leave the job at the same time every day, stressed, pressed and often times depressed and return the next day for more of the same! Most people have this experience and absolutely hate it.  But not everyone will take action to leave that life behind and so they continue to walk the treadmill of the 9-5.

You Are Your Own Boss So Schedule Uninterrupted Work Daily

For those who DO want something different and step into the world of entrepreneurship, the new way of work can be deceiving. Some think that working from home means you get to lounge around each day, get up when you want, do whatever you want and do as much as you want. Some have no schedule at all living the “life of Riley” day in and day out. They do  spurts of activities without any real purpose or focus, and of course, no progress.

Hey, there’s no boss to tell you what to do! So, you can do whatever you want or nothing at all. These are the people who left their jobs to pursue…a hobby!

being your own bossWorking from home means exactly the opposite. You are working but in the space of your home. And so because you ARE working, you need to develop a mindset that propels you to engage in activities that move your business into progress and eventually profit mode.  No of this can be done by doing the things mentioned above. This is the reason you still need a boss.

A boss who will tell you what to do, when to do it, how to do it, by when to do it and why you’re doing it. This boss can relate to you and your goals.  He or she also knows what you need to do to achieve them and stays on you to make sure you do.

I was on a webinar the other day and the trainer was sharing an experience she had the previous day. She was working on a blog post, getting her content ready to share with others, when she received a phone call from one of her team members who wanted to chat. She told her that she couldn’t because she needed to get the blog post finished but afterwards started thinking that she should call her back. Guess what? She didn’t make the call. Know why? Her boss told her not to. Her boss told her to finish her work.

Here’s another example, When I returned home today from my exercise class, I wanted to take a nap. I had just worked out and my bed looked very comfortable. Surely a little bitty nap wouldn’t hurt, I thought. But guess what? My boss told me no, go work on your blog post and that’s the post you’re reading right now.

You Will Always Have A Boss

fire your bossYou may have fired your boss already or you may be preparing to do so but in any case, you still have a boss in your life and always will. That boss is YOU!  You are your own boss. Being the boss means that you will lead yourself down the path of prosperity and success by calling the shots, making the critical decisions and applying yourself each and every day.

When you don’t feel like it, when you choose an unrelated activity, when you want to be social or when you want to be entertained, listen to your boss and do what he/she tells you to do. Remember, you hold the key to success in your hand and with your “boss” always nearby to steer you in the right direction, you will be able to use that key to open many doors.

Love this post. Even though we don’t have a boss telling us what to do, it’s up to us to motivate us to succeed. It always amazes me when people come into our industry and won’t leave go of their employee mindset…

So true, Keith. We have to guide and direct ourselves every step of the way. We have an even larger task than our 9-5 boss because we are building our futures and it’s entirely up to us. 🙂

Your post is right on point Theresa. A lot of home based business owners forget that working from home still means that you are working and you have a boss to answer to. That boss is YOU… Thanks for sharing!

We need to keep ourselves on track. Have a plan and follow it. Adjust as needed and keep on building! We can be successful if we stay on track!

Great post Theresa! It takes some self-discipline to keep on track. It’s not always as easy as people make it out to be, which is why having a detailed plan with goals, strategies, tactics, and timelines is so important.
