Time management is the reason so many network marketers struggle. In many cases, they haven’t been trained in how to market online correctly. Still in other cases, it is because they do not plan for each day. In order to be successful in network marketing, it is critical to plan for each day. Time management is key!
A Basic Time Management Lesson For Network Marketers
I was listening to a Wake Up call some time ago. The message that rang out loud and clear was that you must plan and manage your time effectively. With all the training that many network marketers receive, it’s puzzling how this key component of marketing is ignored. If you don’t have a plan in place, the day tends to slip away and once it’s gone, it’s gone. You can’t get it back. Ever!
Think about what’s goes with that wasted day. What’s gone is the chance to prospect and a chance to connect with people. A chance to generate leads, a chance to make a sale and a chance to create content is also gone. Most importantly the chance to be of value to the marketplace is also lost. That’s a lot to lose! So the first thing to do in managing your time is to plan and then stick to the plan.
How Do You Manage Your Time As A Network Marketer?
During the Wake Up call, the speaker shared his strategy on how he manages his time daily. He talked about the 70, 20, 10 rule. In planning out your work, remember that 70% of your work must be prospecting. Prospecting includes making phone calls and connecting with people on social media. This could also take the form of live networking events and your daily encounters with people as well. This is the bulk of your time because this IS your business!
Another 20% of your time should be learning. You should learn all you can about marketing strategies. Just remember to learn one at a time until you’ve mastered it. Once you’ve achieved mastery in that strategy, then move to another one. There are a host of strategies available and they can be tempting. If you take on too many, you will end up spinning your wheels and not seeing results. This learning can take place by attending webinars or by listening to speakers via company events, video training or blog posts.
The final 10% of a marketer’s time should be devoted to personal development. Personal development is key. It’s what changes you from the inside out. It’s what causes you to grow. So many people come into the industry and still have same mentality they had when they were 9-5ers. Some people don’t believe they will make it in life and feel that they don’t have what it takes to be successful. This is not the mindset you want. You are embarking on a wonderful journey that will change your life and the lives of your family. Yes, personal development is necessary to make you ready to take on this exciting journey.
What Should Your Schedule Look Like?
Block out the times that you can’t do any marketing because of your own personal responsibilities or commitments. These should include doctor appointments, dropping children off to school and picking them up, running errands, making dinner and things of that nature. Never cast aside your responsibilities or commitments because of your business.
That’s not to say that you have to cheat on your business either. The purpose of scheduling your time is to show you that there is enough time to do it all and during the course of any day, there is a lot of time that is wasted. Practice scheduling will ensure that wasted time becomes a thing of the past.
Once you block out the times when no marketing can be done, you’ll be amazed at how much time is left. This is time that you schedule all your business activities. This is the essence of time management and skillful planning.
If you adopt these strategies and make them your own, you will begin to see movement in your business. There are many ways to manage your time but only YOU can manage your time based on your own circumstances.“Think ahead. Don’t let day-to-day operations drive out planning.” Click To Tweet
