The typical schedule of a network marketer includes training, writing content, emailing the list, engaging in mindset and most importantly, prospecting. MLM prospecting is really the foundation of an MLM business because without prospecting, you have no one to talk to and as a result, no one to buy from you.
Many network marketers struggle with this, the most important part of the work, for several reasons. One, they fear talking to people, they don’t know where to go to find people and they don’t know what to say to people once they find them. Here are some things to keep in mind about MLM prospecting.
What Stands In The Way Of MLM Prospecting
In many cases, what stands in the way of prospecting is the fear of prospecting itself, where to prospect and what to say to a prospect. Let’s take a closer look.
Most people fear prospecting because they are simply not sure of themselves, are afraid of what others will think of them or are afraid of being rejected. They lack confidence and they lack skill. In many cases, they don’t think they know enough about the product, service or opportunity to present it to someone else, and therefore avoid it for as long as possible.
You can tell if a person has fear by his behaviors such as making excuses, missing self-appointments, claiming that she is too busy, displays unorganization and hides the business from family and friends. Believe it or not, some people even fear success. This way of thinking will get in the way of the business at hand – which is prospecting.
A way to remedy this is to think about what you want to accomplish. You have big dreams about the kind of life you want for yourself and your family. First, accept the fact that there will be people who may judge you and your business but let that roll off your back. To combat your lack of confidence, learn your product inside out. If you get rejected, it only means that that person didn’t have a need for what you had to offer. Move on!
Besides the home parties, the phone calls and trips to the mall, there are other places where your MLM prospecting can be done. The great thing about it
Ribbon-cutting events are also great places to find and connect with people. It is at these events where you can usually find a variety of people from the community as well as local politicians and other people instrumental in the event itself.
Vending events offer lots of possibilities to talk to people. People naturally visit a table set up with information and are always looking to know more.
In addition, MLM prospecting can take place online. Reach out to people in your niche and strike up a friendly conversation. Friendly conversations can sometimes turn into business relationships. Just be sure not to bombard anyone with your product/service or opportunity before you get to know them.
What do you say to prospects? Here are some prospecting techniques. It’s okay to begin with small talk like “where are you from ” “how’s the weather there” “what did you think of that game last night” to break the ice. Afterward, you can ask what they do for a living. Show an interest. Chances are they will reciprocate and ask you similar questions.
Here’s where a lot of network marketers make their mistake – they talk too much. You have to be prepared to simply state in one sentence what you do. For example, I show stay at home moms how to make a extra $1000 a month. If the person seems interested and asks for more information, or ask for a website, they are now considered a prospect.
The next step is to get their contact information and set up a future time to sit down and talk further, perhaps give a presentation. There is no need to give a presentation at that time. Your goal was to get that lead so you can later meet and talk. This can be done on or offline. MLM prospecting can be done quite easily beginning with small talk and leading into more.
Additional MLM Prospecting Tips:
Remember everyone won’t want what you have to offer. Don’t make the mistake of letting that ruin your day. Those who are for you, will stay and those who aren’t, they’ll go their way.
When talking to someone, always be genuine. Let them know that you are really interested.
Overcome your fears by first admitting you have them and then letting them go, by talking to someone about the fears and by not talking negatively to yourself.
Always talk in the affirmative, letting yourself know and believing that you can move forward.
In addition, personal development helps strengthen your confidence as well as your competence. It also builds up the courage needed to succeed in business.When you speak with assurance and confidence, your prospects will recognize this in you.
For effective prospecting in network marketing, you have lose your fear and gain confidence, go where people are and talk to people to see if they’re open to what yu have to offer.
