LESSONS FROM THE HILL

The Hill

Years ago, I knew a young man who carried a big, thick book everywhere he went and read from it daily. For a while, I just watched him sit in the quiet part of a room or an isolated area of the park, open the well-read book carefully studying the words on the pages so intently, it piqued my curiousity. Finally, I asked him about this book he was holding onto so tightly I often called it his bible. He introduced me to The Laws Of Success written by Napolean Hill.

At that time, I wasn’t really interested in the book because I was busy trying to raise my small family and quite frankly didn’t see that what was in the book applied to me. Foolish girl!  Years later, I ran into the book again and gained a little more insight about what it had to offer. However, still didn’t choose to delve into it and see what it was really all about.

Realizing Our Potential

Napolean Hill QuoteI began my journey in network marketing about two years ago and have been specifically training in it for about a year. What I have learned is that in order to be successful in network marketing you absolutely must engage in personal development. This could take the form of a book written by an expert in the niche such as Napolean Hill, as well as a video, a CD, a DVD, an audiobook, or a course. These vehicles of personal development help the individual assess their skills and qualities. It also helps them decide on their life’s objectives and then to set goals in order to realize these objectives, ultimately maximizing their potential. This is what that big, thick book was all about!

Currently, I am reading another book written by Napolean Hill titled, Think and Grow Rich. I’m beginning to see the wisdom of this man who is said to be responsible for influencing more people down the road of success than any other person in history. Hill was born into poverty in a one-room cabin in Virginia in 1883. He became rebellious after his mother died when he was ten and his father remarried. He became a writer at age thirteen when he began working as a reporter at a small town newspaper. Facing many disadvantages and pressures in his young life, Hill set out on a journey to find out why so many people do not achieve true financial success and happiness in their lives.

Golden Nuggets From Hill, The Master

Here are some of Hill’s golden nuggets:

quotes by napolean hill“The ladder of success is never crowded at the top.” Being successful takes a lot of hard work and not everyone is willing to keep showing up. If you want to be successful, you have to commit to do the activities day in and day out that will propel you into success. It’s not crowded at the top because not everybody will make the commitment. Will you make it to the top?

“The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those which fail.” The best laid plans don’t always pan out. It’s important to know this and equally important to have another plan in place if this happens. Most people look at the failure as an indication of what’s to come – more failure and doubt. But if they chose to set another plan in place and keep at it, they would still be on the road to success.

“Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once whether you’re ready or not to put this plan into action.” It’s so important to know what you want and then plan out how you aim to achieve it. You don’t have time to dally so as soon as you have a plan, set it in motion. The sooner you begin, the sooner you’ll reach your goal.

“You give before you get.” Being of service to others is the essential element of life and in network marketing, it is one of the pillars of what we do. We can’t expect to jump in and reach our goal of success without having helped many others do the same. It takes time, patience and a genuine desire to share what we know. We’ll get there but we have to help others get there too!

hill quote“Don’t wait, the time will never be just right.” So often, people delay getting started in working toward making a positive change in their lives. One of the main reasons is time. The time is not right, or they don’t have time right now or there’s too many things on their plate. These “excuses” can keep people from changing their life for the better and keep them a “prisoner” of the rat race, the 9-5 or the doldrums. Learn how to manage your time more efficiently and you’ll be surprised how much time you actually DO have and how this time slips through the cracks daily and is lost forever.

These are only a very few of the golden nuggets of Napolean Hill, whose indisputable wisdom has survived the test of time. His books offer a blueprint, a guide and a model of how we should live our lives to achieve success. Even today, there are many students of Mr. Hill who are like that young man I once knew studying his wisdom and ideas and putting them into practice to achieve their own success. So many wonderful, meaningful and important lessons from the Hill. We should all learn from them.
