Creating An Irresistable Lead Magnet
So you want to create an irresistable lead magnet! From my previous posts, Attracting Your Ideal Customer, read HERE, and The Basics of a Lead Magnet, read HERE you already know three things. 1-A lead magnet is a piece of content. 2-A lead magnet is like a trap that catches your ideal customers and 3-A lead magnet is a free giveaway and has to be irresistable (sweet). So where do you go from here?
As all good marketers know, you can’t market to everybody. Everybody won’t have an interest or need in what you have so you have to narrow your target down to those who DO have an interest or a need for your offer. Let’s say you’re in the travel industry. (By the way, there are numerous targets within the travel industry. For example, people looking for honeymoon destinations, people planning a cruise, those wanting to plan a family vacation and many more.) For this example, let’s choose the target audience of those looking to plan a cruise.
Determine The Need
Think about what this audience would want to know as they plan their cruise. (HINT: I did a quick search on Google to find out…it took less than 5 minutes.) These are the keywords I used: cruise basics, things to know about taking a cruise, security on a cruise, food on a cruise, packing for a cruise. The results were numerous. Here are some: 25 Cruise Secrets Everyone Should Know, 10 Tips To Ensure Your Safety And Security On A Cruise Ship, 10 Hidden Costs Of Cruising, 7 Ways To Improve Your Cruise, 15 Cruise Packing Tips and Hacks, How To Cruise With Food Allergies. I think you would agree that each of these holds enormous value to a person going on a cruise. Take a step further, they will make irresistable lead magnets.
Whether it’s their first time cruising or if they are repeat cruisers, everyone doesn’t know everything and sometimes may take things for granted. I remember a few years back, there was a news story about a young woman who mysteriously vanished from a cruise ship. Up until then, I never really thought about there being any major safety issues on a cruise. This alerted me and now if I go on cruise it would be one of my main concerns.
Determine The Platform
Once you decide the value you want to provide, summarize and restate the content in your own words. Remember, you cannot copy someone else’s words and work. We all learned that in school! So if you’re going to go with an idea you found on a search, put your own spin on it. Make it your own. Additionally, you may not even need to search for an idea, you may have your own and that is awesome!
Remember, the content does not have to be lengthy or complicated but rather short and “sweet”. It should be consumable within 5 minutes of the prospect’s clicking to receive it. It should make an impact and be value-filled.
After preparing your content, think about the platform or how you want to deliver the content. The possibilites are endless. Here are a few: a checklist, a PDF, a short video, a report. Once a prospect clicks for the giveaway, their contact information is automatically added to your email list. At this point, they are now afforded the opportunity to get updates, free training and other offers from you that would be of interest to them.
Creating an irresistable lead magnet is not a difficult thing to do and it’s the best way to build your list. Just know who your target market is and what their needs are and you are ahead of the game.
