3 Tips To Master Social Media Marketing

Have you taken your business online but have yet to experience results? The reason why many marketers are failing in their social media marketing is because they simply haven’t learned how to master social media marketing.

Some might say, “What’s there to master? I post my link and watch to see who’s interested. Isn’t that all there is to it?” Quite frankly, that’s not all there is to it. In fact, that’s not it at all.

What Is Social Media Marketing?

From the various articles and posts I’ve read, I think I can sum it up by saying that social media marketing is a process. It’s a process by which marketers attract traffic to themselves by creating and providing compelling content that is specifically targeted to a specific audience. The end results is establishing a presence of authority and expertise, user engagement and ultimately building relationships.

So now that we got that out of the way, how do you master it?

3 Tips to Master Social Media Marketing

Tip #1

The first tip to master social media marketing is to be committed to social media. It’s like so many other things in life. In order for it to really become a reality, you have to commit to it. That could be a relationship, health, weight loss, eating healthy, etc. It also applies to your business. Once you make the decision to take it online, you have to fully commit to showing up every day. It’s not about posting here and there, once in a while.

Social media is moving constantly and you have to move with it. You can very well be seen today and no longer visible tomorrow. That happens when people aren’t totally committed to using social media 100%. Many don’t realize it but there is a social media strategy that when ignored will result in no results.

social media strategyThe second tip to master social media marketing is to let your personality shine through. There are literally millions of people on social media many of whom are trying to get the attention of everyone else. People are looking for sales, prospects, recruits and business opportunities.

What makes one person stand out among the rest? It’s their personality, their authenticity. The trick is that there really is no trick. It’s about you just being you. Your “you” comes out in what you post.

Are you shooting videos and lives? Those are two excellent ways for people to see who you are. They get to experience you up close and personal, you might say. It could be your laugh, your smile, the excitement you portray when speaking about something you love. People pick up on that and it can go a long way.

What about your status updates? What are they saying and reflecting about you? When you post useful information, tutorials, any kind of motivation or inspiration, they also reveal who you are and what you value. People can get a good look into you by your status updates.

Are you posting articles? How are these articles chosen? They must have resonated with you in some way. You must have decided to share them for some reason.

Tip #3

mastering social mediaThe third tip to master social media marketing is not to spread yourself thin. With all the social media networks out there, one can get a bit carried away. What do I mean? Well, people want to be seen everywhere and so they make the big mistake of using multiple networks to spread their offers, their message and their brand. The problem is that you can’t keep up with all those networks, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snap Chat, LinkedIn, Tumbler and all the rest. And there are so many more!

When you really think about it, trying to engage in every social media network is akin to having that shiny object syndrome. When a person suffers with this affliction, he wants to grab onto anything that comes along hoping to get results. Being in too many groups is similar. You’re looking for someone, anyone who will pay attention to you. But no one will because you don’t have that consistent presence. It just doesn’t work.

The biggest thing to remember is to be consistent. When you are trying to sustain a presence on too many networks, you’ll never gain a presence.

It’s best to choose two maybe three networks and focus your time and energy there. It will be easier to build and keep up the momentum of people seeing you, getting to know you and recognizing you.

Mastering social media is a process but not an impossible one. Just remember when you start out to be committed, be authentic and don’t be everywhere!
